Courtenay Museum and Paleontology Centre, BC, Canada

 

I really enjoyed our time at The Courtenay Museum.  It is a small museum, but has some interesting exhibits on paleontology.  The province's official fossil, an elasmosaur, is on display.  The fossil was found nearby in 1988 by two amateurs.  It is a fascinating story to think about two people (father and daughter) fossil-hunting in a small river and coming up with something incredible.  The Museum offers fossil tours, which sounds like so much fun.

The downstairs is focused on fossils.  The upstairs is focus on the history of the region including items gifted by local indigenous communities.

I bought cute socks at the gift shop.  Courtenay is a nice little town with some fun shops, coffee shops and cafes.  We didn't get ice cream.  I wanted ice cream.  Everyone else said "no".  I'm still salty.
