Steamboat Inn in Steamboat, OR
Our cottage in the woods
Soaking tub/shower
Steelhead with orzo
We stayed several wonderful days at the Steamboat Inn in the Umpqua National Forest. It is a beautiful setting along the Umpqua River. The Inn is charming and rustic. It is about an hour drive from Roseburg, along very well maintained roads (Hwy 138). The Inn serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is fortunate, because there isn't anything else nearby. All our meals were excellent! They even packed a lunch for us to take to Crater Lake.
We stayed in a comfortable cabin about 1/16 of a mile away from the Inn. There is a little pod of four cabins, so you aren't completely alone in the woods. It is quiet! Our cabin had a king-sized bed downstairs, two twin beds upstairs, a living room, kitchenette and one bathroom. The kitchenette had a refrigerator, coffee maker, beans with a grinder, tea, sugar and cream. The bathroom had a step-in soaking tub/shower. It might be hard for a older person to get in. I had to lift my foot to mid-thigh to step in and I'm an average-height woman. The hot water was ample and arrived instantaneously on demand. There is no TV and the whole area has no cell service, but there is satellite service, if you stand outside.
We chose the Inn because it is about a 45-minute drive to the north entrance of Crater Lake N.P. It was an easy drive with very little traffic.
The Inn office opens at 8 AM. If you need to drop your key off earlier, ask the night before.
