Jack London State Historic Park, Glen Ellen, CA
Jack London was a prolific writer. He is best known today for "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang", which considers the lives of two canines - a dog (Buck) that becomes wild in Alaska and wolf-dog that becomes tame. He was an early "travel influencer", writing popular books about his travels to exotic locations. The Jack London State HIstoric Park is on the grounds of his final home. It is a wonderful park. We took a pleasant walk through the forest to see his and wife's graves and their dream home, which was sadly destroyed by fire.
His wife, Charmian, an intersting character in her own right, built another home, after London's death, to serve as a museum. The museum chronicles their lives of adventure and showcases London's dozens of books.
There is another trail through London's model farm. He was interested in modern farming practices. There are beautiful stone buildings for horses and cows; a silo; a winery and more.
All the trails we walked were wide, easy and shaded. There are helpful rangers on the premises. We were intrigued to see horses from a nearby stable, which offers trail rides. Off the parking lot, closest to the museum, there is a short path down to nice bathroom with running water. There are also portable toilets at several locations.
This park is a gem!
