"Need to Eat" cafe in Poway

Need To Eat is a tiny cafe with breakfast, lunch and outstanding pastries.  The little duck, above, was thin, white chocolate encasing a chocolate pastry cream and a hollow of soft caramel.  It was delicious!  I went for a late breakfast and had a hearty shakshuka.

I could not leave without taking the duck and three macarons home.  The first macaron, I tried as the Dubai chocolate.  The macaron was perfectly made with a crunchy outer layer and a slightly soft interior.  The filing was very generous.  Dubai chocolate is made pistachios and kadayif (similar to phyllo dough, but ultra thin and crunchy).  I haven't had the other two yet, but they look great!

The cafe is directly across from Hawaiian Seafood.  It is very cute with a definite duck theme.  The website doesn't show their current breakfast/lunch menu.  There are Ukrainian specialties, a nice selection of sweet and savory crepes and more.  They also have an assortment of packaged, take-home dinner entrees like beef Stroganoff.

This was a really exciting find!
