Alabama Hills Recreation and National Scenic Area, Lone Pine, CA

I grew up in California and never heard of this area.  It is gorgeous!  It is 30,000 acres!  It really is one of the most beautiful parks I've visited with a stunning view of the mountains as a backdrop.  The whole area has some fascinating rock formations and excellent views of the Sierra Nevadas.  We went to the Mobius Arch Trail.  It is a short trail that requires some short steep switchbacks.  It is well worth the effort.

This is a great area for a day trip.  There are several trails, a stream and good dirt roads to see the rock formations up close.  There are portable toilets available throughout.  There are some campgrounds.

There are many movie locations within the park.  "Django Unchained", "Star Trek Generations" and many other movies were filmed there.  One of the roads into the park is called "Movie Road".

It is about a five minute drive from the center of Lone Pine.  In Lone Pine, we had a nice quick lunch at Vibra's.  The town of Lone Pine has several casual restaurants and a grocery store.
