Dockside 1953 at the Bahia Resort, San Diego

We don't go to Mission Bay often, so a visit seems like we've gone away on a vacation.  The area has a lot of nice energy with lots of family parties on the sand, picnics on the grass and boats cruising by.  We went to the Bahia Resort for dinner.  The resort is very pretty with bayside cabanas and views of the boats.  The main restaurant is Dockside 1953.  We had an excellent meal and the patio had a fun vacation vibe to it.  I started with a cocktail - a mojito with butterfly pea to give it a pretty pink color.  I had a filet mignon with potatoes, nicely flavored with tarragon.  My friend had pan-seared seabass with a tasty risotto.  We shared a side of grilled asparagus.  Our food was a little slow to come out, so we got an order of bread, complimentary.  The bread was outstanding!

The staff were very friendly.  There was a singer/guitarist on the patio and he had a great voice.  It was so relaxing to sit back and enjoy our meal and listen to the music.  There is plenty of free, public parking.  My only negative comment is that it is hard to find the dinner menu on the website.  It shows the breakfast menu as the default and it isn't immediately obvious where the menu tab is.

We had a wonderful time!  To our surprise, there is a pool in the front with three rescue seals.  They were fun to watch and learn about their stories.  I would recommend the resort to visiting friends.

This is a fun mural in the resort.

                                                        Get this!  So good!
Night herons are local birds and they look elegant
