Catania in La Jolla

It was a perfect day in La Jolla and it was a delight to sit on the balcony of Catania and enjoy a view of the ocean and a splendid breeze.  I had a pretty and delicious cocktail "Sogno rosa" and we had a starter of arancini.  These little fried balls of goodness are made of rice and stuffed with cheese.  Catania has the best arancini I have ever had!  They were flavored generously with saffron and fried to a nice crunchy exterior and a wonderful, melted cheese interior.  They were served in a rich tomato sauce.  Wonderful!

For our main courses we had duck sugo orecchiette and Alaskan halibut.  My duck pasta was very rich and delightful.  I only ate about half and took the rest home.  Orecchiette is a funny pasta, because the name means "little ears".  Once you learn this, it is hard not to think about it.  My friend's halibut was great and I didn't get one bite.

We were too full for dessert, but there is a Swiss chocolate shop just below, Teuscher.  I got a selection of chocolates to take home for later. Excellent!

Catania is located on the third floor of a small shopping plaza, near Prospect Street.  I highly recommend it.  We tend to find parking away from Prospect going up quiet streets like Draper or Eads.
