Bud's Louisiana Cafe, San Diego

Bud's Louisiana Cafe is tucked away in a small plaza on a quiet street in Kearny Mesa, about three minutes from the entrance to I-15 at Balboa.  It is Southern home cooking, at its best.  I had the chicken and grits.  My Mom was from Tennessee and this is exactly how she cooked.  It was so comforting.  The diced chicken and mushrooms are in a rich brown gravy.  The grits were well seasoned.  The menu has classics like po' boy sandwiches, jambalaya and etouffee.  They have some exotic foods, (exotic for San Diego), like alligator and crawfish.

Good food, laid-back ambiance and an outdoor patio!  They offer breakfast, including beignets.  Worth a repeat visit, just for beignets.

There is some parking in a small lot and plenty of on-street parking.
