The Med at La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla

I was a bit concerned, because the menu seemed a little limited.  The Med is the main restaurant at La Valencia  hotel, which is one of La Jolla's most recognizable landmarks.  It is very pink and very Mediterranean and has a fantastic view of the ocean.

We started with cocktails.  We sat on the balcony with a view of the ocean and the hotel pool below.  We shared the hummus platter to start.  This was excellent with three types of hummus and plenty of raw vegetables for dipping in addition to pita bread.

I had a tandoor-style chicken and the plate was loaded with elements - a melon salad, pickled vegetables, a raita and a chick pea puree.  The chicken was moist and well seasoned.  The star was my friend's vegetarian tagine.  The Israeli-style cous cous was perfectly cooked and seasoned.  There were dates, chick peas, pickled vegetables, steamed carrots, fresh baby cilantro and more.

The portions were ample and we didn't even consider dessert.  We came home with enough for another meal.

It was a great experience!  The wonderful food, combined with the view made this a memorable meal.
