Campfire restaurant in Carlsbad

Pork belly bahn mi

Breakfast chiliquiles

Kale salad

Even the indoors felt outdoors

Campfire is on point and very California.  There is as much seating inside as out and the restaurant is very bright, open and hip.  The outdoor seating is very kid friendly and there is even a teepee.  We were given a brunch menu which included an ample wine, beer and cocktail list.  Some of the options were a little puzzling like:

roasted beet
apple. sunflower. coffee. chocolate.

or this;

blistered wax bean
market fish. soft boiled egg. olive. shallot

It takes some imagination to envision these strings of nouns as a meal.

I had the pork belly bahn mi, which was delicious with sweet/salty pork and spicy vegetables on a great piece of bread.  Simple and very satisfying.  My friend had chilaquiles topped with a fried egg (eggs are having a moment these days) and kale with lentils.  All items were less than $15, which is a good deal.  My food was a perfect amount for lunch, but my friend needed both the chilaquiles and salad to feel satisfied.

The food is excellent with plenty of strong flavors and a good spicy heat level.  It is right in Carlsbad Village and seems to always be open, except for a few hour closing between lunch and dinner.
