Veladora at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa
It feels like a special occasion from the moment you pull up to the front gate. There is an enthusiastic greeting and directions. The drive meanders through a verdant canyon with mature eucalyptus and palms. Veladora is in an inviting hacienda. There is a beautiful view of the grounds. I started with a cocktail that was wonderful. Everything on the menu looked outstanding. We were served a warm brioche and then an amuse-bouche topped with caviar. We shared a wonderful artichoke bisque, which is one of the best things I have ever eaten. My friend had the catch of the day, which was a local striped bass served with calamari. I had a duo of iberico ham with cherries. The dessert was a fabulous hazelnut eclair with figs.
Our waiter was excellent. He was knowledgeable and told us about the history of the Resort.
This is an expensive place, but it is a great spot for a special experience.
This artichoke bisque was a stand-out |
