sweetgreen in Carlsbad, CA
My daughter became obsessed with sweetgreen, while living in Washington, DC. She wrote the corporate office to complain that there were so few in Southern California. (The nearest one was in Thousand Oaks). They let her know that one was opening in Carlsbad and gave her $50 in credit.
sweetgreen offers customizable salads and warm rice bowls. You can select the items for your order from a wide range of greens, roasted vegetables, proteins and more. You can also order from a set menu with salads like guacamole greens, harvest bowls and farmhouse caesars. I tend to struggle with all the options of picking all my own ingredients, so I usually select a set menu salad.
There are many, many items to choose from. Everything is served in a compostable bowl. The restaurant is very bright, spacious with ample outdoor seating. We stopped by after a long walk on the South Carlsbad State Beach. We ended up with a very filling and satisfying meal.
The restaurant is new and is located in a small, new shopping center off El Camino Real in the south of Carlsbad. It is next to a Shake Shack, which is a weird juxtaposition. It is also near a Lofty Coffee, which would have made a nice follow-up for coffee and dessert, but we were stuffed!
