Gihon Ethiopian Kitchen in Miramar, San Diego

We noticed Gihon Ethiopian Kitchen while we were on Miramar Road looking for kitchen supplies.  We love Ethiopian food!  I ordered the doro wat, a classic chicken dish served in a rich sauce with a hard-boiled egg.  My friend had shiro, a vegetarian stew thickened with chick pea flour.  Ethiopian food is typically served on injera, a thin bread made of fermented teff flour.  Our plate came with three side dishes of a lentil hummus, beet salad and tofu.

This is wonderful cooking that tastes like homemade.  The spice palate is complex and the heat level can be adjusted per request.  There are several vegetarian offerings.  The food is traditionally eaten with the hands using a piece of injera as a scoop.  It is very filling and hearty!

This is a cute cafe with an informal vibe and lots of parking in the strip mall.  They offer an Ethiopian coffee service for a group of three or more.  I'm looking forward to giving this a try, along with everything else on the menu.
