A trip to Mount Rushmore

 A photograph does not do justice to how incredible this ice cream is!  We stopped in at Saffron and Rose Persian Ice Cream, just a few blocks from the Del Mar beach.  This is quite different from ordinary ice cream.  There is a wide array of unusual flavors such as pink rose, white rose, date, cucumber, saffron/pistachio, green tea, taro/ube and also more traditional flavors such as vanilla and almond.  I had a scoop of jasmine and a scoop of saffron/pistachio.  Both were delicious.  The jasmine was quite floral, which was lovely.  The saffron/pistachio was loaded with nuts and saffron is such a vivd color with a warm, rich taste.  

The texture of the ice cream is little different from typical ice cream.  It has a slightly stretchy quality and is very smooth in the mouth.  The ice cream is also on the sweeter side.  It is a unique experience and worth a special trip.

It is so nice to have an ice cream shop so close to the beach.  We were there the day after Thanksgiving and it was warm enough to want to take a break from the sun with a cool treat.  The shop has pints to go, as well.  A few pints would make for a fun tasting party!
