A Walk around Lake Miramar
I forgot to bring water, so by the end of the 5-mile walk around Miramar Reservoir, I was tired. It was a beautiful day, so it was a really nice to be outside. This loop path is very level and paved. There is a wonderful view of the reservoir for the entirety of the walk. The water was abundant with coots, ducks, grebes (great and lesser) and other waterfowl. The path is well above the water, so if you are going for bird watching, bring binoculars. There is a trail that forms an inner loop close to the water and also some fishing piers. Away from the water, there were scrub jays and other brush birds. There is shade for much of the path. There are ample benches and portable toilets, but I didn't see any drinking water, except at the start. There is also a small section with picnic benches.
The path is shared by bicycles, joggers and walkers, so you do have to be attentive to your surroundings. There are signs reminding people to stay to the right, so the center of the path can be used for passing. There are also sections that permit cars. These seem to be people going to fish.
We found parking (Saturday around 10 AM) easily. When we left, there were even more spaces in the lot. However, it is a good idea to know where some alternate parking is available. There are some spots on a dirt section as you drive up the hill.
The only caution is that the section of the path over the dam closes at 5 PM. So, if you arrive later in the afternoon, cross the dam section (to the west) first.
Really pleasant morning walk!
