Lola 55, Carlsbad, CA
Blessings upon the person who cleans and chops cilantro! It is one of my least favorite chores. However, it really makes the taco game at Lola 55. The fresh cilantro, pickled red onions and grilled pineapple were the little touches had a big impact on how delicious the tacos were.
We started with an order of street corn. This was sweet, spicy, creamy and crunchy. For my main course, I had carnitas tacos and the pork belly taco. Freaking great! The rich meat was contrasted with crisp items, like thin slices of chayote and an exuberance of cilantro. My friend had sides of beans and rice to accompany his rainbow cauliflower taco.
For about $40 we had two meals and then had enough of the elote, beans and rice to take home to make two slappin' burritos at home.
We went to the location in Carlsbad. It is in an attractive plaza, conveniently across from Jeni's Ice Cream. Great day!
