Roman Wolves in Little Italy, San Diego

Roman Wolves specializes in the cuisine of Rome.  The food is excellent!  We started with cocktails.  I had a "pornodivo" martini made with passion fruit.  It was delicious.  For an appetizer, we shared an order of the artichoke hearts.  These were served in herbed breadcrumbs and were so good.  I love artichokes!  For a main course, my friend had the branzino.  This was a hearty whole sea bass with plenty of vegetables and potatoes on the side.  I didn't get a single bite!  He ate all of it.  I don't cook pasta at home often and I felt like a classic - spaghetti carbonara.  This was very pretty plate with golden noodles and rich bits of salty guancile.  Loved it!  It was such a robust preparation, I ended up taking half home.  I usually don't like left-over pasta, but this dish microwaved very nicely and made for a fine lunch.

The menu includes lighter fare, like "pinse", which is a Roman-style piazza.  The many pasta dishes ranged in price was $22 - $26.  The "secondi" courses included filet mignon, rack of lamb and salmon.  You can enjoy a light or more serious dinner.

The restaurant fittingly has a view of the Piazza Pescatore - a small plaza that honors the Italian fishermen who helped develop San Diego's tune industry.  We went on a Sunday and easily found free parking on Kettner Blvd.  Little Italy is a fun area for a pre- or post-dinner stroll.  It was a great meal and a relaxing evening out.
