San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)
The San Francisco Museum of Art has an outstanding collection of contemporary in a very impressive setting. One of my favorite artists is Anselm Kiefer and I was pleased that there were many of his paintings on display.
The current major exhibit now is "The Art of Noise" which explores the relationship between sound and the visual arts. You don't need to know anything about art to enjoy the many exhibits on this theme. There is a large collection of one-sheets for rock concerts and rock albums. The display celebrates the many, often overlooked, artists who designed art work for some of the best-loved bands in American music.
Wu Tsang's piece "Of Whales", in the lobby, unites images and sound in a captivating display. The living wall, kinetic sculptures by Calder and works by Kusuma are other pieces that are immediately engaging. This is a must-see museum.
