Washi Transformed at Mingei Museum, San Diego

"Washi Transformed" is the latest exhibit at the Mingei Museum.  "Washi" is traditional Japanese paper.  The exhibition features dozens of works in paper by Japanese artists.  There was a huge range of techniques.  In "Nest", the top photo, the paper was transformed into sturdy, red building blocks.  In other works, traditional paper folding techniques were used to create large, geometric images.  The last photo shows paper used in a more traditional folding screen form.

This show is a must-see.  I loved every piece!  I had lunch at Artifact in the Museum.  I think it is the best restaurant in Balboa Park!
