Goblin Valley State Park in Green River, UT

This park is an absolute treasure.  There is an expansive valley filled with the oddest little sandstone formations.  They look less like goblins to me and more like mushrooms.  There are hundreds, most standing about six feet tall on little sand pedestals.  This is a unique place.  There is a parking lot for the Valley of the Goblins.  Then, after a short walk down steps, you can wander at will among them.  So strange and so charming.  The ground is soft sand and walking is easy.  The formations are technically hoodoos, but hoodoos are more typically large formations.  These are so cute, each deserves its own little name.

It was easy to wander around without losing sight of the parking lot.  The park also has hiking into the floor of the desert and vistas of impressive and colorful buttes.

It is about a 45-minute drive from the town of Green River, through flat, open grasslands.  There is a staffed ranger station, restrooms and a campground.  The area is also known for being a dark sky region with the only source of artificial light being over ten miles away.  It is worth a visit for star gazing.
