Rashelica Winery, Ramona, CA
This is an outdoor art museum and winery. Rashelica Winery has dozens of large sculptural works along with its vineyards. The collection is focused on contemporary Mexican artists. Most of the pieces are massive and figurative. You don't have to know anything about art to enjoy the art. It is located immediately through the gates and is easily accessible along several walkways. They range from impressive to comical. There is also a life-size reproduction of Michelangelo's "Pieta". The bronze was cast from a mold of the original marble sculpture and is a Vatican-authorized copy. It is amazing.
The winery specializes in reds such as malbec and petite sirah. They do sometimes make whites, but they purchase grapes from further north. There is a charming outdoor patio for tasting and a friendly sommelier. I tried a port from Paso Robles. I loved it! I also bought one of their malbecs.
The vineyards stretch out behind the patio. This is an easy place to find because there is an enormous gate and a large "ART" sign.
Ramona has many wineries. It was a hot day, so we only went to Rashelica. On a cool day, it would be easy to make a nice afternoon of visiting all the places in Ramona.
