San Dieguito County Park, between Del Mar and Solana Beach

 

This is a great park with lots to do!  San Dieguito County Park offer great views with trails, activity areas and ample parking.  We wanted to see wildflowers and we were not disappointed.  There were many things in bloom and also ground squirrels scampering out, hawks, hummingbirds and many other birds.  There are overlooks at the "Hawks Nest" and the "Osuna Overlook", which offers views of the canyon below and surrounding hills.  The Activity Center has climbing bridges and fitness equipment.  At the base of the canyon there is a formal garden, ponds with ducks and fountains.  There are plenty of trees, so it is easy to hike in the shade.  There are several playgrounds, restrooms, gardens and ball fields.

There is parking outside the park, on Lomas Santa Fe Dr., just off Linea Del Cielo, so it can be accessed before opening hours. We arrived at 8 AM and the park was very quiet, but there were soon joggers, dog walkers, people picnicking, soccer players and more.  It is quiet spacious and there is much more for us to explore.
