Water Puppets of Vietnam

These puppets breathe fire, battle with sparklers and squirt water at each other.  The stories range from the mythological with dragons and unicorns to the daily life, as a couple try to protect their ducks from a wily fox.  The stage is a pool of water.  The puppeteers are behind a screen and operate the puppets with rods.  The music is live with an ensemble of musicians performing on traditional instruments and singers.

We thoroughly enjoyed the hour of entertainment.  It is a wonder and a delight that needs no translation.  There a several venues that offer these traditional puppets.  We saw the show near the Sofitel hotel.
