Meiji Shrine, Tokyo

This serene spot is surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Shibuya.  The walkway to the shrine is a wide path through a verdant forest. There are casks of sake wine on display as a devotional offering.   It is a Shinto shrine, so the entrance is marked by an impressive torii gate, indicating that you are entering sacred grounds.  Devotees of Shinto write prayers on small wooden plaques and post them.  The inner sanctuary is closed to the public, but can be seen from outside.
