The Paigah tombs
The roof ornaments are unique |
The Paigah tombs are an under-visited gem in Hyderabad. The tomb complex is small, but rich in
distinctive architecture and refined ornamentation. We had an outstanding tour guide, Jonty (jonty@detoursindia.com
who got us through the labyrinthine streets of the Old City and helped us understand
the close relationship between the Paigah family and the Nizam of
Hyderabad. The grounds are quiet and
uncrowded. It allows of a leisurely pace
to take in the artistry of the marble, stucco and wood details. Most exquisite are the delicate perforated
screens.
There
are many wonders in Hyderabad. The
Paigah tombs are as much of a must-see as the Golconda Fort or Chowmahalla
Palace.
Beautiful stucco work! |
