The Dragons of Lumpini Park, Bangkok

Lumpini Park is a large, beautiful park with a lake and canals.  It was fun to watch families feeding the catfish, listen to the lively mynah birds and see couples in swan boats paddling around.  The stars of the parks are the resident monitor lizards.  They can be seen swimming in the lake and sunning themselves on the banks.  Some are about 4’ long.  They are wary of humans and don’t approach them, but it is easy to take their picture while they are napping in the sun.

The Park is very clean and busy with visitors.  It is closed to traffic, making for a pleasant stroll.  The surrounding area has many cafes and restaurants and it is close to a nice mall.  We went during the day, so I don’t know if it is safe at night.
