Ayutthaya is a small city near Bangkok that used to be the
capital of the Kingdom of Siam.
Much of
it was burned by the Burmese in 1767.
There are Buddhist temples there now, such as Wat Phanan Choeng that
houses a huge gold Buddha.
There are
also an staggering assortment of ruins that very impressive.
It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and well
worth a day trip.
